Ukrainian Pysanky

$55.00

Meets Saturday, March 7 from 2 - 5 PM

Join us for an introduction to the Ukrainian art of Pysanky. All materials included and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ukrainian war effort.

Throughout the spring, Ukrainians all over the world begin to celebrate by writing Ukrainian Easter eggs, known as "pysanky". These are raw eggs that have been emptied and decorated using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word itself comes from the Ukrainian word to write. Designs are drawn with a pencil and then heated beeswax, using a tool called a "kistka" to apply the design. The egg is dipped in its first dye and the wax helps to seal on the color. This process is continued until the final color when the beeswax is melted off with a candle and the pysanka is revealed. Truly magical.
